The hiking & active hotel in Lower Austria

And then of course there is the Schneeberg, right in front of our doorstep.
The so-called Number One two-thousand-metre peak in the Alps, seen from the north, lives up to its name almost all year round and deserves the hype: Because at 2,076 m above sea level, it shows off its snow-covered head well into the summer and really makes people want to conquer it and tick as summit climb off their list.

The Schneeberg region is a year-round holiday region. The Schneeberg has plenty to offer in all seasons: Along with mountain bike and e-bike tours, two popular hikes start off at the Schneeberg railway mountain station: The hike over the Ochsenboden to the 2,076 m-high Klosterwappen, the highest point in Lower Austria, takes about 3 hours at a leisurely pace. The path is dotted with numerous huts and places to stop for refreshments. The "Paradise of Views" circular hiking trail also starts at the mountain station. This is an easy 1-hour walk. You can find out about history, flora and fauna with the audio guide.

Activities around the Schneeberghof

Up the Schneeberg with the Schneeberg railway.

The Schneeberg railway takes its guests to Austria's highest railway station in just under 40 minutes and has been doing so since 1897. It starts at the railway station in Puchberg, which is within walking distance from the Schneeberghof. "Get in and take off" is the motto on the trip to the sunny plateau of the Schneeberg, which is a unique experience in itself with its countless great views. And remember: You are following in the footsteps of royalty, as Kaiser Franz Josef I had a steam engine pull him up the mountain. &#;

  • The railway has been in operation since 1897
  • 1,223 metres in altitude over a distance of 9.8 km in 40 minutes
  • The station was modernised in 2009, is barrier-free and allows comfortable boarding and alighting in any weather
  • The highest mountain railway station in Austria at 1,800 m above sea level
  • Effortlessly on the easternmost two-thousand-metre peak in the Alps
    &#;

Biking, hiking, skiing and winter hiking.

There's always something going on in the Schneeberghof. As a year-round hotel in Lower Austria, at the Schneeberghof, it's high season for athletes, mountain enthusiasts, wellness freaks, culinary lovers, loved-up couples and culture vultures all year round.

Beginners and children can try skiing on the Wunderwiese or on numerous ski tours. The newly built 4-seater chairlift is also available as an ascent aid. In both summer and winter, it is perfect for free descents on skis as a starting point for great hikes.

The Rax cable car also takes you to 1,545 m above sea level in just 8 minutes all year round. The Hohe Wand is also always worth a trip - with a petting zoo, many climbing opportunities and a paragliding school.
